Traditional Architectural Stone Carving and Headstones

Stuart McGrath is a master craftsman in stone, his training is in sculpture, architectural and classical stone carving. All of his stonecutting is done by hand using traditional methods.

I have cut my teeth on a number of large projects, ranging from some of London’s historical buildings, to large scale lettering commissions. Along with these larger projects I have undertaken many private sculpture and lettering commissions in Ireland, the United States and Canada. More recently I have carved a number of  tasteful gravestone monuments and custom memorials working closely with the family members and friends of the bereaved in order to produce a unique monument sympathetic to their needs, that they are unable to find with a regular monumental mason.

I studied in Dublin to obtain a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Sculpture Degree after which I subsequently travelled to Italy and London to expand my knowledge of Architectural Stone Carving. I have been apprenticed to several master stone craftsmen and artisans, earning a respect and a humble knowledge of this tradition, the way it has been done for millennia. It has been said that a picture says a thousand words…… but I believe that stone has to be experienced to be seen and felt to be truly meaningful. So please feel free to have a look around my website and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
